Blaberus discoidalis - the story begins
Share
Jojo and the team at their Canadian breeding facility have accomplished an impressive feat by creating the largest Blaberus discoidalis colony in Canada. Their dedication and expertise in breeding these important feeder insects have helped to provide a reliable and nutritious food source for many types of pets in the country.
But the story of Blaberus discoidalis in Canada goes back further than just Jojo's recent breeding efforts. In late April 1981, specimens of Blaberus discoidalis were collected near Saint John, New Brunswick. One of the first specimens collected still exists at the New Brunswick Museum, a testament to the species' presence in the region.
Since then, several other specimens of Blaberus discoidalis have been collected in Canada, including other unidentified specimens and one poorly identified specimen collected in the early 1900s which has come into Jojo's possession. These specimens are a reminder of the species' history in Canada and the ongoing efforts of researchers and breeders like Jojo to better understand and care for them.
Jojo's commitment to quality and care is evident in every aspect of their operation, from the hand-selected specimens in their colonies to the educational resources they provide to their customers. By offering a variety of feeder insects, including Blaberus discoidalis and Gryllus assimilis, they are helping to meet the diverse needs of pet owners in Canada.
With their expertise and dedication, Jojo and the team are well-positioned to become a trusted source of feeder insects in Canada. They believe that responsible pet ownership and care begin with high-quality, nutritious food sources, and they are proud to be playing a role in this important aspect of pet care.
We are also proud to note that we are fully permitted by the federal government in Canada, specifically the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Information about our permits is available with every purchase, although it is not required. Rest assured that our commitment to quality and care applies to every insect we sell, and we take pride in our compliance with all regulations and guidelines set forth by the CFIA.
